2020 ICF Wildwater World Championships Cancelled
The International Canoe Federation, the American Canoe Association, Nantahala Outdoor Center and the Cheat World Cup organisers are disappointed to announce that the 2020 ICF Canoe Wildwater Championships and four World Cup races scheduled for the Nantahala and Cheat Rivers in the US next month have been cancelled.
The ongoing concern over the spread of the novel coronavirus, together with new international travel restrictions to the US announced on Wednesday March 11th, have left organisers with no option but to cancel the competitions.
While everyone involved deeply regrets the inconvenience the cancellation will cause, the health and well being of everyone involved in the World Championships must remain the priority.
The World Championships were scheduled to take place between April 26-30 and World Cups between May 3-8. Discussions are ongoing about the remainder of the 2020 ICF wildwater calendar.
The ICF would like to thank American Canoe Association, Nantahala Outdoor Center and the Cheat World Cup organisers for their commitment to hosting these showcase events, and look forward to bring back these events to the USA as soon as possible.
