2020 NSR – National Student Rodeo March 13-15th – What’s New this Year?
NSR 2020 – What’s new for 2020?
As with all great things, NSR is an event that changes and evolves, from humble beginnings over 20 years ago to the modern day event that attracts hundreds from across the UK. In previous years new introductions have included a king of the wave event, a party pool and the idea that you can win prizes by tackling someone dressed as a rabbit to the floor.
Here is a list of all things that are new for this year’s event.
1 – The theme
This year the theme of the event will be Games Night. Previously the whitewater centre has seen heroes and villains, a carnival and even Christmas! We are excited to see what the competitors come up with this year with their costumes for at the party, and most importantly for on the course.
2 – BoaterX
NSR is expanding its horizons from being just a freestyle event and for the first time 2020 will see the addition of a Boater-X. NSR will be hosting the fast paced, down-river event, meaning competitors will have to demonstrate a different set of paddling skills. This event is the perfect opportunity for even more carnage than in previous years to keep the hungover spectators and judges entertained!
3 – Coaching opportunities
This year NSR is encouraging more people to make the most of the paddling opportunities over the weekend by offering the chance for them to receive coaching from our wonderful sponsors. There will be a range of courses available to the competitors, varying from an introduction to whitewater skills to a crash course in flatwater freestyle to a mechincal advantage workshop! The courses are on offer from: Lloyd Langford, Good2Go, Chris Brain Coaching and Paddle 365.
4 – Prizes
Exo kayaks are the headline sponsors for NSR 2020 and are generously sponsoring the overall 1st placed university. Points mean prizes, and the university with the most prizes by the end of the weekend will be leaving Nottingham with a brand new kayak to add to their fleet – an Exo Rexy!
5 – Film night
Admittedly this isn’t brand new but NSR are delighted to bring back the film night for 2020. This allows all the universities to show off their clubs achievements; from successful Alpine trips where they’re sending the gnar to the ever loved beater reels. The film night will be shown on a loop during the Saturday evening meal, so keep your eyes peeled because you might just see yourself on the screen!
