Wild and Hidden Places – A Kiwi Classic (Kayak Session Short Film of the Year Awards 2013 – Entry # 4)
The West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island is home to a kayakers paradise. Steep rivers tumble from the alps to the sea in less than a couple hundred kilometers. On the way they cut through deep schist gorges. Many of the gorges have been paddled but many remain wild and hidden. Local kiwi kayakers recently took up the challenge to paddle Morgan’s gorge on the Waitaha river and the Toaroha canyon. These two rivers show how potential for future exploration should be considered during hydro consent decisions. After all adventure is something that defines your classic New Zealander.
