Malabar River Festival 2014 – Big Names in the Lineup!

The Malabar River Festival 2014, kicks off in less than a month and we are stoked to see the amount of interest that is being generated all over the paddling world.

This years’ festival will feature an impressive lineup of international athletes who will not only compete for the USD 9000 prize money, but conduct kayaking classes as well! So whether you are a newbie or an experienced kayaker looking to raise the bar, this is one awesome kayak session you don’t want to miss out on.

Some of the top international kayakers you’ll see at the Malabar River Festival are:

Three time Adidas Sickline World Champion – Sam Sutton (NZL)

Red Bull team paddler – Ben Brown

Five time Italian Freestyle champion – Max Benetton

Film maker and kayaker – Josh Neilson (NZL)

Olympic Slalom paddler turned extreme race videographer – Ciarian Heuteau (FRA)

Solo expedition kayaker – Darren Clarkson King (UK) and

Film-makers and expeditioneers – Joe and James Rea Dickens (UK).

Sam Sutton and his team will be looking to gain some historic first descents of the wild and untamed rivers of Kerala, as they explore the region. And who knows, they might even catch a sighting of the majestic Indian tiger while they’re at it!

The idea behind the Malabar River Festival is to promote the sport of kayaking and celebrate the wealth of white-water that Kerala has to offer. We’d like to involve everyone in the celebration and have therefore scheduled the following courses, running through the week leading up the competition.

19th – 20th July: Beginners course (Joe and James Rea Dickens).

19th – 21st July: Rescue 3 White Water Rescue Technician (Dai Chandra Ale).

22nd July: Advanced White Water Techniques and Creeking (Joe and James Rea Dickens)

22nd July: Step it Up Class III+ Intermediate (Darren Clarkson King)

23rd July: Surf it up, Playboating Essentials (Max Benetton)
