Brokeback Gorge (NY)

Knowing that much of the NY’s First D potential has yet to be tapped, Eric Adsit has been feverishly studying his local topography looking for the next best thing. He began his research in his own back yard, the foothills of the Adirondacks and came up huge with this beauty. With only a handful of descents, chances are, you’ve already driven past the take out without even noticing.

What makes NY’s Brokeback Gorge so elusive and appealing? To start, runs like Brokeback are simply harder to get on than they are to get down. Typically, they are usually bone dry or at flood stage within a few hours. Combine the short window of opportunity with the steep and committing canyon, coupled with the breathtaking beautify that defines NY, you’ve got the ingredients for New York’s new classic; Brokeback Gorge. Thank you Eric Adsit for your hard work and for always being down to get on « something different ». A huge thank you goes out to Werner Paddles and Pyranha Kayaks for allowing us to keep our focus on the rivers and not our equipment.
