HIKO Devils Extreme Race 2019, August 23-25th
Awesome paddling, Class 5 party and train shuttles! The HIKO Devils Extreme Race is celebrating its 13 anniversary and is definitely one of the « must do » races in Europe. Adrenalin, music and fun, the HIKO Devils Extreme Race 2019 will take place this year on August 23rd /25th
Devil’s rapids
The Race is on the hardest section of the Vltava river called Devil’s Creek. It is open to everyone who is comfortable on class V. The run alternates between class 3, Class 4 and Class 5 sections. Kayakers compete in three disciplines – down river sprint which is also the qualifier for the boat cross and long race called Dam To Dam. It has been for the past four years the final event of the Extreme Kayak European Cup. For those not into racing or class 5 paddling, there are several other sections to paddle of all levels.
A 4-day party
The program of the HIKO Devils Extreme Race is really rich. Business begins on Thursday evening with the opening party, followed by Friday with a free paddling dedicated to race scouting and training. For the open air concerts and dancing fans there is live music on Friday and Saturday evening. Saturday is also the main day for all competitions followed by prize giving ceremony and Arm wrestling challenge.
Easy transport
The specificity – and one of the coolest thing – about the of Devils Extreme Race is that the shuttles are run with the local train. Hell Train as they call it there goes up the river from the take out every 30 minutes so kayakers don’t need any car. Also transport to Loučovice village is super easy, Loučovice is on the border with Germany and Austria. It takes only 2 hours by car to get there from Prague and less than 3 hours by bus or train from Salzuburg, Vienna or Munich.
Easy transport, racing on great whitewater, and a full weekend of fun, these are some of the many other reasons why so many Czechs, Germans, Austrians and many others love to come every year!
