How to Run Slides
With all the talk regarding the Jocassee drainage, Toxaway, and Thompson, I decided to make a video teaching the basic techniques for running slides. Sliding rapids drop more gradient than nearly any other type of rapid, except waterfalls. The speed, bounce, and deflections can throw off even the most experienced kayaker, but for some reason there isn’t much instruction on how to properly run slides. The breakdown is simple. Once you remember your good kayaking posture and understand fall lines, you can piece it together with strokes and corrections, using diagonals or holes, and landing with a skip over the hole.
