Kayaking The Caucasus Mountains 2012

This summer, a group of 5 paddlers went with a film crew to the Caucasus Mountains to film the Ride The Planet project. Ride The Planet is the first Russian media project on action sport and travelling. It brings the best athletes and mountain guides together with professional filmmakers, action photographers and journalists to make a series of trips to remote regions of the planet that are ethnically appealing, untouched by the tourism industry, and little known to a wide audience. The assembly of a wide variety of languages and cultures along with a unique mountain landscape make the Caucasus one of the most fabulous places on the planet. During the 3-week long trip, the team paddled 6 rivers, the Chegem, Malka, Gonachhir, Amanauz, Ardon and Ceidon.

“Kayaking on the Ardon was very similar to African big volume kayaking. The only difference was the crazy speed of the Caucasian rivers. You disappear in huge masses of water and you feel alone because you can’t see your mates. You can’t really see your line from the boat because everything is so big and fast and all you can do is guess what’s next. But at the same time everything is so big, that it flushes you out” – Egor Voskoboynikov.
