Middle Fork Kings River, California
The last of my High Sierra runs, I finally got on the MF Kings river in California in the summer of 2018. Touted as one of the best multi-day kayak trips in the lower 48, this run deserves it’s reputation. A stout 12 mile hike from the east side of the Sierras over to the west side via Bishop Pass (11,972ft) followed by 4-5 days of amazing whitewater in a remote canyon. The scenery is next level, the camping is incredible, the fishing is off the hook, and the whitewater is superb. It’s everything I enjoy about multi-day kayak adventures. We had 1400cfs on the gauge at Rogers Crossing the day we started hiking in and at the take out 5 days later, it was 1250cfs. This level was perfect for a first time. I managed to beater a slide and swim but besides that, the run was trauma free for everyone 🙂 I’ll be hitting this one up every summer as long as my body can take it.
