The Weather Man was Right – (Kayak Session 2014 Green Race Coverage with Shane Benedict)
We have a saying in the south, « if you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute ». It has never rung more true than what we are seeing this morning as we get ready for the 19th Annual Green River Race.
Yesterday it was 60 degrees with clear blue skies. This morning it is 32 degrees and there are 3 inches of snow on the ground. winds blew through the night, which have knocked out power to some of our area. Thankfully, not right here, so I can sit down with a coffee, write you all this update, and get ready for what will be one of the most memorable Green Races ever.
With concerns for everyone’s safety and well-being, the organizers have pushed the race back one hour, to 1pm, and racers will only race one time. That being said, there will still be over 200 racers which is nearly three and a half hours of racing. Hats off to the racers and spectators who will make the pilgrimage into the gorge it’s going to be a burly experience for all.
Good lines and safe times to everyone.
Shane.
