Whitewater Sessions 2017, Durance Valley, France – July 8-9th
The Durance Whitewater Sessions are back! This year the event will take place on July 8/ 9th with a big novelty: « La Grande Descente » a multi-crafts mass float from the lower Guil through Embrun on sunday…
So yes, the Durance Whitewater Sessions organized by Kayak Session magazine will take place again this year in the Durance Valley, in the southern French Alps. This event is a celebration of whitewater paddling in every form: open canoes, kayaks, whitewater standup, raft, inflatables etc…
In honor of this mentality, this year there will be “la Grande Descente” on Sunday, a mass float whose goal is to gather as many people as possible on as many different crafts as possible. The flotilla will go from the lower Guil River (gorge de Mont Dauphin), though the Serre Ponçon Lake with a stopover above the Rabioux.
The weekend program is « a la carte » anyone being free to paddle the rivers of their choice (more than 10 to choose from…), but for those interested, there will also be clinics organized with certified instructors (creeking, freeride, safety, whitewater sup, open canoeing).
The friends of my friends are my friends… for those coming with friends or family members with no experience or very limited experience, locals raft guides Pierre Lafay and Gérard Champoiral will be there and offer their guiding services for easy whitewater trips (inflatable canoes, open canoes, and rafts).
Numerous brands will be there to get their products tested and demoed.
Last but not least, an open-air cinema in the evening screening many films, including WHITEWATERS, Stephane Pion and Hugo Clouzeau/We Are Hungry Productions’ latest film.
